Yes — Advanced Word of the Day is free to use with no account and no ads. Premium is optional and adds 20 words a day, an unlimited Study deck, and Quiz mode.

How do I get started with Advanced Word of the Day (AWOTD)?

Download the app from the App Store and select your preference for daily notifications (no judgement if not!). You'll immediately have access to 3 new advanced words daily - no sign-up required!

What's the difference between the free version and Premium?

The free version gives you 3 carefully selected advanced words each day, plus audio pronunciation, Home & Lock Screen widgets, the Apple Watch app, a Study deck (save up to 50 words), daily streaks, and light/dark mode.

Premium adds 20 words a day, an unlimited Study deck, and Quiz mode — plus the full catalog of advanced words, faster. It's available as a weekly or annual subscription (with a free trial) or a one‑time lifetime unlock.

How do I manage or cancel a subscription?

Subscriptions are billed through your Apple ID and renew automatically until cancelled. To manage or cancel, open the Settings app on your device, tap your name, then Subscriptions. The one‑time lifetime unlock is a single purchase and never renews. You can restore any purchase from the app's menu via Restore Purchases.

How do I set up widgets and notifications?

To add the widget:

• Long-press on your home screen
• Tap the "+" button to add widgets
• Search for "Advanced Word of the Day"
• Select your preferred widget size

To add the Lock Screen widget: touch and hold the Lock Screen, tap Customize, select the widget row, and add Advanced Word of the Day.

For notifications, simply enable them in the app settings when prompted, or go to your device Settings > Notifications > Advanced Word of the Day.

Are the words suitable for standardized tests?

Absolutely! Our daily words are thoughtfully selected with tests like the SAT®, ACT®, GRE®, and GMAT® in mind. While we are not affiliated with any of these organizations (and can't guarantee score improvements), we hope our content supports your broader vocabulary and test preparation efforts.

Can I review and practice words?

Yes! Tap Add to Study on any word to save it to your Study deck, then practice with spaced‑repetition Review — see the word, try to recall the meaning, then reveal and rate it, and the app reschedules it for the perfect time. Premium users can also test themselves in Quiz mode. You can still use the "Previous" button to cycle through today's words, too.

Is there an Apple Watch app?

Yes — the Apple Watch app shows today's words on your wrist, lets you tap to hear pronunciation, and bookmark words to Study. It stays in sync with your iPhone, and it's free for everyone.

Privacy Policy

1. Overview

Advanced Word of the Day (AWOTD) is operated by XBudd LLC. AWOTD is designed to work without an account, advertising identifiers, or behavioral advertising. To improve the app, it uses one third-party product-analytics provider (PostHog) that collects anonymous, aggregated usage data, as described in Section 3, Analytics. The AWOTD website measures anonymous page views with the same privacy posture — cookie-free PostHog analytics, no advertising or cross-site tracking (see Section 6).

2. Information We Process

• Daily word data: The app stores the current daily word batch, widget data, seen-word history, premium status, and notification preference locally on your device and in the app's shared container so the app and widget can stay in sync.
• Purchases: Premium is handled by Apple's in-app purchase system. XBudd LLC does not receive your full payment card information.
• Notifications: If you enable notifications, iOS stores your permission choice and AWOTD schedules local notifications on your device — the daily word, and an optional evening streak reminder if you turn it on. You can turn these off in the app or in iOS Settings.
• Support emails: If you contact us, we receive the information you choose to send, such as your email address, device details, screenshots, or support question.

3. Analytics

To understand how the app is used and to improve it, AWOTD uses PostHog, a third-party product-analytics provider acting as our data processor. PostHog collects anonymous, aggregated usage data — for example which screens and features you use, whether a word was viewed or saved, whether you viewed the Premium screen and which plan you chose or restored (the plan name and its price — never your payment details), and basic device/app information (device model, OS version, app version). If the app closes unexpectedly, it also sends an anonymous crash report describing the error and the app code that led to it, so we can diagnose and fix the problem. This data is linked only to a random, install-specific identifier generated on your device, not to your name, email, Apple ID, or any advertising identifier (we do not use the IDFA and do not use this data for advertising or cross-app tracking). PostHog processes this data on our behalf and stores it on infrastructure in the United States, retained only as long as needed for product analysis. You can stop sharing analytics anytime in the app under Settings → Privacy → "Share anonymous analytics." For more, see PostHog's privacy policy (posthog.com/privacy). 4. Information We Do Not Collect

• We do not require an account.
• We do not collect your location, contacts, photos, microphone, or camera data.
• We do not collect the Apple Advertising Identifier (IDFA).
• We do not use third-party advertising, tracking pixels, or advertising/analytics cookies on the AWOTD site. The only analytics on the app or the site is the anonymous PostHog product analytics described in Section 3.
• We do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.

5. How We Use Information

• To provide app functionality, including daily word delivery, widgets, notification preferences, and Premium access.
• To respond to support, privacy, or legal requests that you send to us.
• To comply with legal obligations and protect the app, site, and users from misuse.

6. Cookies And Tracking

The AWOTD site does not use non-essential cookies, advertising cookies, or cross-site trackers. It measures anonymous page views with PostHog configured cookie-free: state lives only in your browser's local storage, autocapture and session recording are disabled, and the Do Not Track setting is honored. Because we use no advertising or cross-site tracking technologies, we do not display a cookie banner.

7. Legal Bases For Processing

Where privacy laws such as the GDPR apply, we process information as needed to provide the app and Premium purchase functionality, based on your choices for optional notifications, to respond to requests you send us, and to comply with legal obligations.

8. Children

AWOTD is a general-audience educational vocabulary app. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal information to us, contact privacy@xbudd.com and we will take appropriate action.

9. Data Retention

Local app data remains on your device unless you delete the app or reset device data. Support and privacy emails are retained only as long as reasonably necessary to respond, maintain records, and meet legal obligations.

10. Your Choices And Rights

• You can disable notifications in AWOTD or iOS Settings.
• You can delete local app data by deleting the app from your device.
• You can request access, correction, deletion, or other privacy assistance by emailing privacy@xbudd.com.
• To request deletion of the anonymous analytics data associated with your device's random identifier, email privacy@xbudd.com.
• California residents may contact us to exercise applicable rights to know, delete, correct, or opt out. AWOTD does not sell or share personal information for behavioral advertising.

11. International Users

XBudd LLC is based in the United States. If you contact us from another country, your message may be processed in the United States.

Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of Terms

By downloading or using Advanced Word of the Day (AWOTD), you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.

2. Eligibility

AWOTD is intended for a general audience aged 13 and older. If you are under 13, do not use the app or site.

3. Use of the App

• You may use AWOTD for personal, non-commercial vocabulary learning.
• You may not copy, reverse engineer, redistribute, or misuse the app, site, code, brand assets, or content except as allowed by law.
• Word definitions, pronunciations, examples, notifications, and widgets are provided for educational and informational purposes.

4. Premium Purchase & Subscriptions

Basic features are free. Premium is available as an auto‑renewing subscription (offered on a weekly or annual basis, which may include a free trial) or as a one‑time, non‑consumable lifetime purchase.

Auto‑renewing subscriptions automatically renew unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your Apple ID account is charged for renewal within 24 hours prior to the end of the current period. Any unused portion of a free trial period is forfeited when you purchase a subscription. You can manage or cancel subscriptions in your device Settings under your Apple ID. Billing, refunds, and purchase records are handled by Apple under your Apple ID and Apple's terms.

5. Intellectual Property

AWOTD, the app design, code, logos, and original content are owned by XBudd LLC or its licensors. You may not use our brand assets without permission.

6. Standardized Test References

SAT, ACT, GRE, and GMAT are trademarks of their respective owners. AWOTD is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by those organizations, and we do not guarantee test score improvements.

7. Disclaimers And Limitation of Liability

AWOTD is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. To the maximum extent permitted by law, XBudd LLC is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from use of the app or site. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so some terms may not apply to you.

8. Privacy

Your use of AWOTD is also governed by our Privacy Policy.

9. Changes And Termination

We may update or discontinue features and may update these Terms from time to time. You may stop using AWOTD at any time by uninstalling the app.

10. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Texas, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, except where consumer protection laws in your location require otherwise.
