How do I get started with Advanced Word of the Day (AWOTD)?

Download the app from the App Store and select your preference for daily notifications (no judgement if not!). You'll immediately have access to 3 new advanced words daily - no sign-up required!

What's the difference between the free version and Premium?

The free version provides 3 carefully selected advanced words each day. Premium users receive 20 words daily, perfect for intensive vocabulary building and exam preparation.

How do I set up widgets and notifications?

To add the widget:

• Long-press on your home screen
• Tap the "+" button to add widgets
• Search for "Advanced Word of the Day"
• Select your preferred widget size

For notifications, simply enable them in the app settings when prompted, or go to your device Settings > Notifications > Advanced Word of the Day.

Are the words suitable for standardized tests?

Absolutely! Our daily words are thoughtfully selected with tests like the SAT®, ACT®, GRE®, and GMAT® in mind. While we are not affiliated with any of these organizations (and can't guarantee score improvements), we hope our content supports your broader vocabulary and test preparation efforts.

Can I review previous words?

While you can't revisit words from previous days (yet!), you can certainly review the words from today. Use the "Previous" button in the app to cycle through your current day's word list to reinforce your learning.

1. Introduction

Welcome to Advanced Word of the Day (the “App”), operated by XBudd LLC (“we”, “us”, or “our”). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect your personal data when you use our iOS app and related services.

We process your personal data based on your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR), our legitimate interest in maintaining and improving the App (Art. 6(1)(f)), and to comply with legal obligations (Art. 6(1)(c)).

2. Data We Collect

• Device Identifiers: We collect the Apple Advertising Identifier (IDFA) only if you grant permission via the App Tracking Transparency (ATT) prompt.
• Usage & Analytics: We collect non-personal data such as viewed words, session timestamps, and crash reports (via Firebase/Crashlytics).
• Consent Information: Your GDPR/CCPA consent selections, as managed by Google’s User Messaging Platform (UMP), are logged to respect your preferences.
• Diagnostic Data: Anonymous logs may be used to monitor performance and resolve bugs.

3. How We Use Your Data

• To display ads (personalized or contextual) through Google AdMob based on your consent and tracking choices.
• To analyze app usage, fix bugs, and enhance performance and experience.
• To power in-app features like daily word delivery and widgets (this functionality does not require personal data).

4. Advertising & Third-Party Services

We use Google Mobile Ads (AdMob) to serve ads within the app.

• Personalized Ads: Only shown if you explicitly consent to tracking and data usage under GDPR/CCPA and approve the ATT prompt.
• Non-Personalized Ads: Displayed if you decline tracking or are underage. We set npa=1 to show contextual ads only.
• SKAdNetwork Integration: Apple's privacy-safe ad attribution system is supported using Google’s required identifiers in Info.plist.
• No Sale of Data: We do not sell your personal data to third parties under any circumstance.

5. Data Sharing and Retention

• We do not collect or share your contact, location, or payment data.
• Data is securely stored and anonymized where applicable.
• You can revoke permissions (e.g., ATT tracking) at any time via iOS privacy settings.
• We retain collected data only as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes outlined in this policy, unless a longer retention period is required by law.

6. GDPR, CCPA & COPPA Compliance

• GDPR (EU/UK/CH): We use Google’s UMP to collect, store, and honor your ad consent status. You may adjust this at any time in the app’s Settings.
• CCPA (California): You have the right to know, delete, or opt-out of data “sale” (we do not sell data). Contact privacy@xbudd.com to make a request.
• COPPA (Children): The App is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us information, please contact privacy@xbudd.com so we can delete it.
• Age Restriction: The App is intended for users aged 13 and older. Users who decline tracking and/or are in restricted jurisdictions will receive non‑personalized (contextual) ads.

7. International Data Transfers

Your data may be transferred to and processed in countries outside your jurisdiction (such as the United States), which may not provide the same level of data protection. Where required, we rely on Standard Contractual Clauses or other appropriate safeguards.

8. Your Rights & Choices

• Manage Consent: Visit Settings → Privacy & Consent to change your ad preferences at any time.
• Disable IDFA: Go to Settings → Advanced Word of the Day → Tracking to control tracking permissions.
• Disable Analytics: You may turn off anonymous usage reporting in the Settings menu.
• Data Deletion: Email us at privacy@xbudd.com to request removal of any stored data.

9. Security

We implement technical and organizational measures to safeguard your information, though no system is completely immune from risk.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as needed to reflect changes in law or our services. The “Last updated” date will be revised when changes are made.

By downloading or using Advanced Word of the Day (the “App”), you agree to these Terms of Service (“Terms”). If you do not agree, please do not use the App.

2. Eligibility

The App is intended for users aged 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are under 13, you may not use the App. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us data, please contact us.

3. Use of the App

• You may use the App only for personal, non-commercial purposes.
• You may not reverse engineer, copy, or redistribute the App without prior written permission from XBudd LLC.
• All content (including word definitions and notifications) is provided “as is” without guarantees.

4. Subscriptions & Payments

Basic features are free. Premium subscriptions are billed via Apple’s App Store and renew automatically unless canceled. Billing, cancellations, and refunds are handled directly by Apple. Please review your Apple ID subscription settings for details.

5. Intellectual Property

All rights, title, and interest in the App, including trademarks, logos, code, and content, belong to XBudd LLC. You may not use our brand assets without permission.

6. Disclaimers & Limitation of Liability

The App is provided without warranties of any kind. We are not liable for damages arising from use of the App, interruptions, inaccuracies, or third-party ads. To the maximum extent permitted by law, our liability is limited to the amount you paid (if any) for the App in the prior 12 months.

7. Privacy

Your use of the App is also governed by our Privacy Policy. Please review it to understand how we collect and process your data.

8. Termination

We may suspend or terminate access if you violate these Terms. You may also stop using the App at any time by uninstalling it.
