Advanced Word of the Day is now on Android

The single most-requested thing in AWOTD history, by a landslide. As of today, Advanced Word of the Day is live on Google Play - same advanced (yet usable) words delivered daily now on Android. If half your group chat has felt left out for a year, tell them the wait is over.

The strange bet that got us here

We also quietly turned one earlier this month, so consider this a slightly belated birthday - with presents. A year ago, AWOTD appeared on the App Store with an odd promise for a vocabulary app: we will teach you less.

Not less in quality - less in volume. Most vocab apps feel more like dictionaries than study tools - tons and tons of words, but most you already know or would never really have a need to use in daily life (looking at you, medical terms that are bordering on Latin!). So instead we bet everything on advanced yet usable words. Three advanced words each morning (twenty for those who go Premium!), chosen by hand, guaranteed to pass a simple test: would you actually use this? Advanced enough to sharpen your writing, confidence, and thinking while also usable enough to say out loud without sounding like you're trying too hard.

A year later, that bet looks pretty good - and now we are excited to share the learning with even more folks.

📱 There's an iOS present too: v2!

The iPhone app gets a birthday polish - v2 is out now with refinements across the app. As always: the three daily words stay free, the widgets stay glanceable, and the Apple Watch app stays the best 5 seconds of your morning.

A year of AWOTD, by the numbers

What year two looks like

More of the thing you came for: genuinely great words, every day, wherever you look first - now on twice as many phones. Thanks for enjoying and learning with us - we'll keep the advanced words rolling in!

Thanks for a wonderful first year. Here's to the next 350.
